::Cozy bistro with excellent meats from Taiwan and Europe. Polite staff who even speak Chinese to foreigners. Some excellent wines (I recommend the Portuguese douro). We had the ink-batter deep-fried cuttlefish (yum) and some sushi (ho-hum). Totally spoiled by penny pinching. I ordered the charcuterie platter: 3 cooked hams, 1 raw (TW); salami, boar sausage and chorizo (EU); plus a range of nuts, dried fruits, pickles etc. I think the cheese was supposed to be Comte, but it was quietly replaced by two small slices of mediocre Grana Padano. When we asked for a couple of slices of bread to go with it, it turned out they charge $50 per slice. No kidding. And I'm not talking sky-scrapingly thick slices towering over your plate. They were about the thickness of your pinky and half the size of a $100 dollar note. Which is pretty funny, cos that's exactly how much they cost... Here's the thing: if the wines had been $100 dearer, I still would have had two glasses, and the bill would have come out the same. If the dishes had been $50 dearer, we would not really have noticed--this is an expensive area. We would even willingly have paid $200 for the big bottle of water we drank. But we left with the feeling that we had been ripped off, and we won't be going back again. Poor management.
